The rules of the game, no small print.
The terms for using MenuDesign, explained plainly.
What MenuDesign is
MenuDesign is a free web tool for making restaurant menus, daily and weekly set menus, menu cards for events and the everyday sums of running a restaurant. It runs in your browser and needs no sign-up. It also publishes guides with general information for people who run restaurants, cafés, pubs and bars.
Using the site
By using the site you accept these terms. In particular, you agree to:
- Use the tool and its content lawfully and in good faith.
- Not try to damage, overload or gain unauthorised access to the site or its systems, or download its content in bulk or by automated means.
- Not pass off the guides, illustrations or design of the site as your own.
Your content
The menus you make are yours. You can print them, publish them and use them commercially without crediting MenuDesign. They are saved in your browser: we do not receive or review them.
You are responsible for what you put in them: names, descriptions, prices, allergen information and any images or logos you upload, which must be yours or used with permission. Always check the result before you print or publish it.
Allergens and food information
The tool helps you show the 14 allergens clearly, but the information is entered by the food business and remains its responsibility, as set out in Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 and its retained version in UK law. Automatic allergen suggestions are only an aid and must always be checked against your recipes and your suppliers’ product specifications. In the US, the FDA recognises nine major food allergens, including sesame, and the rules are different, so check what applies where you trade. If you are unsure about the rules, ask your local food safety authority.
Guides and calculators
The guides and calculators offer general guidance, prepared with care, but they are not legal, tax or health advice. Rules change and often depend on the country, region or local council. Check them with your accountant or the relevant authority before making decisions. Calculator results are estimates that depend on the figures you enter.
Intellectual property
The text, illustrations, design, code and brand of this site belong to its owner or are used under licence. You may quote extracts from the guides as long as you link to the original page; for any other use, ask for permission.
- Designs and templates: you can use them freely for your own menus, including commercially.
- Downloadable allergen icons: free for your menu, website, venue or social media, with no credit needed.
- Fonts: they have open licences (mainly the SIL Open Font License).
- Interface icons: they come from Lucide (ISC licence) and our own designs.
Availability and liability
MenuDesign is offered free of charge and as is. We try to make sure it works well and that the information is accurate, but we cannot guarantee that it will always be available or free of errors, and it may change or stop being offered.
Because your menus are saved only in your browser, they are lost if you clear its data or change device: download backups from “My menus”. To the extent permitted by law, the owner is not liable for any damage arising from the use of the tool, for the loss of data saved in your browser or for decisions based on the guides or calculators.
Links to other websites
Some pages link to third-party websites, such as government or regulator websites. We do not control their content and are not responsible for it.
Governing law
These terms are governed by Spanish law. If you use the site as a consumer, you keep the rights and the choice of courts that the consumer law of the country where you live gives you.
How personal data is handled is explained in the privacy policy.
