Your menus never leave your browser.
Here is, point by point, what data is processed when you use MenuDesign and what is not.
What we do not collect
- There are no accounts, sign-up forms or newsletters.
- We do not use cookies or tracking pixels.
- We do not use analytics or advertising tools, our own or anyone else’s.
- We do not sell or share data with anyone: we have no data of yours to share.
What stays on your device
Everything you do in the tool is saved in your browser’s storage (IndexedDB and local storage), on your own device: your menus, your regular dishes with their allergens, the logo you upload, previous daily menus, the figures you enter in the calculators and your preferences. Your browser also keeps a copy of the site so it works offline.
None of it is sent to our servers, so we cannot see it, recover it or delete it for you. You are in control:
- To delete a menu, remove it in “My menus”.
- To delete everything, clear this site’s data in your browser settings.
- To avoid losing your work if you change device or clear your browser, download a backup from “My menus”. It is a file saved on your computer.
Photos and text from your menu
When you upload a photo of your menu, the text is read by a recognition engine (Tesseract) that runs inside your browser. The first time, your browser downloads that engine and its language data from jsDelivr, a public content delivery network. As with any download, jsDelivr receives the IP address of whoever requests it; the image of your menu is never sent.
The text you paste or type does not leave your device either.
Translation
If your browser has a built-in translator (for example, recent versions of Chrome or Edge), the tool uses it to suggest translations. That translator runs on your device; the first time, the browser itself may download the language model. We do not send your text to any translation service. If your browser has no translator, you translate by hand.
Technical data when you visit the site
The site is hosted on Cloudflare (Cloudflare Pages). Like any server, to deliver the pages and protect them from attacks it receives technical data about each visit: the IP address, the browser and the page requested. We do not use that data to identify you or to build profiles.
- Purpose: to serve the site and keep it secure.
- Lawful basis: legitimate interests in providing the service securely (Article 6(1)(f) of the UK GDPR and the EU General Data Protection Regulation).
- International transfers: Cloudflare is a company based in the United States and may process this data outside the UK and the European Economic Area, with the safeguards that data protection law requires. You can find the details in its privacy policy.
If you write to us
If you write to us using the contact form, we receive by email what you put in it: the type of message, the text and, if you add them, your name and email address. If you report a bug, we also receive the page you were on and technical details about your browser and screen (never your menus), so we can reproduce it. We use all of this only to deal with your message and reply. The lawful basis is your own request. We keep the message for as long as we need to deal with it and, after that, for any period the law requires.
To keep spam out, the form uses Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that you are a person from technical data about your browser, without tracking cookies. The message is sent through Cloudflare (Workers and Email Routing), with the same safeguards described under “Technical data when you visit the site”.
Cookies and local storage
MenuDesign does not set cookies. The local storage your browser uses to save your menus is strictly necessary for the tool to do what you ask, so it does not need your consent (the “strictly necessary” exemption in the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, PECR, and in Article 5(3) of the EU ePrivacy Directive).
If we ever add analytics or advertising, we will explain it here first and ask for your consent where it is needed.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct and erase your data, to object to or restrict its processing, and to data portability. Bear in mind that we do not keep any of your data on our servers. What there is lives in your browser and you control it: you can view it, change it, export it or delete it whenever you like. For anything else, write to us using the contact form.
If you think we have not handled your request properly, you can complain to a data protection authority: in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk); in the EU, the authority of the country where you live or work.
Children
MenuDesign is a tool for people who run restaurants, cafés, pubs and bars. It is not aimed at children.
Changes to this policy
If we change anything, we will publish it on this page with its new date. Last updated: 16 October 2026.
